General queries
What is the final submission deadline for the Bath Award?
The deadline for the completion and submission of your completed Bath Award activities is 11.59pm on 1 May 2027.
Am I eligible for the Bath Award if I am a Gold Scholar?
Yes, Gold Scholars are eligible. You may use the same volunteering hours for both the Gold Scholarship Programme and the Bath Award.
Does everyone who registers and successfully completes all the necessary tasks gain the award?
Yes. There are no limits on the number of people who can receive the award. Everyone who completes their submission by the deadline, with the correct number of hours logged and the appropriate pieces of professional development submitted, will receive the award.
Can I do the Bath Award again, if I have already completed it?
Yes, you are welcome to complete the Bath Award again. However, we would not recommend it as the award structure and requirements remain the same each year, so it will not offer a significantly different experience to what you have already completed. We would instead encourage you to use the skills and confidence you have gained to explore new opportunities and challenges beyond the award.
How can I check which capabilities I chose?
When you register for the Bath Award, you will select four of the seven available capabilities. Once you have completed the registration form, will update to show you which four capabilities you selected. You can go back to this page at any time to check your capabilities, log your hours, and upload your professional development progress.
Can I change the capabilities I have chosen?
You can change your chosen capabilities at any point before final submission by updating your registration form. Just go to and click 'Update your registration form' to select new capabilities. However, switching away from a capability you've already completed workshops or professional development for means that progress will be lost.
Logging hours
Does my placement year count towards the 50 hours of extra-curricular activities?
No, as a placement is part of your degree. Any placements / internships / industry experience that are part of your degree programme cannot count towards your 50 hours, as they are not extra-curricular. However, if you organised your own internship outside of a placement year (for example, a summer internship) or have taken part in the Micro Internship programme, these hours count. Both unpaid and paid internships count.
Check a full list of what counts towards the 50 hours.
Can I log hours from previous years, or do I need to start fresh this year?
You can log hours from any approved activity that have taken place since 1 September 2025, provided you were a student at the ºÃÉ«tv at the time.
Can I use hours from different types of activities for the 50 hours of extra-curricular activities?
Yes, you can mix and match hours across developing your employability, supporting the university, contributing to your community, and climate advocacy, as long as they were completed while you were a registered ºÃÉ«tv student and have taken place since 1 September 2025. These activities do not need to be associated with the university, and can be completed externally, for example, part-time employment counts towards your 50 hours.

Sporting activities can count if they fall under one of the following: developing your employability, supporting the university, contributing to your community, or climate advocacy. Coaching, captaining a team, or running sports clubs are eligible as they involve supporting the university or contributing to your community. Simply participating in a team does not qualify.
Can I use my time spent on the Rotork Community Challenge for my 50 hours of activity?
No. Time spent on the Rotork Community Challenge cannot be counted towards your 50 hours, as this is considered part of your academic programme rather than extra-curricular activity. Check the full list of activities that count towards your 50 hours.

Completing your submission
How do I complete my submission?
You will only be able to see the option to complete your submission when you have logged 50 hours of extra-curricular activity, attended four Bath Award-endorsed workshops and uploaded four pieces of professional development. If you can't see an option to send in your submission, make sure you have logged all the necessary hours and completed all your workshops and professional development . When you have done this, you will see a button that says, 'Submit your final reflection'.
How do I write my final submission?
If you're unsure how to write your final reflection, read our good examples of reflective writing. Your reflections are not marked and there is no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ answer. There are only your honest views on how the professional development resource you used has helped you develop your chosen capability.
You can also join our reflective writing workshop, which is a practical session designed to help you understand what makes a great Bath Award reflection, how to structure your writing, and how to move beyond description to genuine critical reflection.
Can I use AI to help me write my submission?
Reflection is not just a requirement of the award; it is the part of the process where the real development happens. Taking the time to think honestly about your experiences, what you have learned, and how you have grown is where the value lies. Using AI to write your goals or reflections skips that entirely, and means you miss out on the benefit. We are not looking for perfect writing, we are looking for your genuine account of your experience.
Can I have an extension to the 1 May deadline?
Unfortunately, we're not able to extend the deadline for completing your Bath Award submission. We need all submissions to be complete and with us no later than 11.59pm on 1 May 2027.
If you're not able to complete your submission by the deadline, you will be able to enter again next year.
