1. Critically applying knowledge of theories relating to the teaching and learning of science to discuss their implications for teaching and learning in the classroom.
2. Sourcing pedagogical literature independently, critically selecting literature that is appropriate for the development of your argument.
3. Synthesising your school observation analyses with perspectives presented in academic and professional pedagogical literature and your own science education experiences.
4. Critically analysing your observations of science teaching in a secondary school, literature and your own experiences to develop and justify an approach to teaching science. |
Synopsis: | "Study the complexities of science education.
You will explore science education teaching and learning theories and childrens experiences of the science classroom. Well provide a variety of teaching activities to allow you to examine the practice of science education, including secondary school science lesson observations.
You will focus on a specific topic within science education that interests you and explore this to deepen your understanding of science education practice.

The nature of science and the purpose of teaching science.
The difficulties encountered by children when learning science.
The role of practical work in science education.
The role of assessment and feedback in the learning and teaching of science.
