- Apply the principles and theories of infectious diseases to compare and contrast different pathogen strategies.
- Appraise current disease intervention approaches, in a global context.
- Critically evaluate current research in the infectious diseases field.

| Synopsis: | "You will explore the diverse topic of pathogens, the diseases they cause, host responses and public health interventions such as vaccines and anti-microbials.
You will research topics in-depth using lectures, including some from experts working in the field, and your own research of the relevant primary literature.
You will develop your knowledge of infectious disease biology and develop your skills in critical analysis and dealing with complex information. "

| Content: | This unit covers the broad field of infectious diseases. Specific diseases will be used as examples to highlight key concepts in infectious diseases, and current approaches to research in this area. The unit will cover pathogens, disease, host responses and infectious disease interventions, including vaccines and anti-microbials.
