Working closely with both academic and professional services staff, you will contribute to the development and delivery of strategy, policies, and processes that strengthen student engagement, support a thriving student community and excellent educational experience. 

In this influential role, you will ensure that students are aware of and have access to the full range of welfare services, wellbeing initiatives, and community-building activities available to them. You will help establish and maintain effective channels for capturing the student voice, and you will champion opportunities for co-creation, enrichment, and extracurricular involvement. 

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the design, implementation, evaluation, and continual improvement of initiatives that support an outstanding student experience across undergraduate and postgraduate courses. 
  • Lead and manage the Student Support Officer team, ensuring consistent, effective, and compassionate support for students across the Faculty. 
  • Increase visibility and accessibility of welfare and wellbeing support, while fostering a strong sense of community and belonging among students. 
  • Act as a strong advocate for students, ensuring their perspectives and needs are represented in Faculty decision-making and discussions. 
  • Analyse and evaluate student feedback and engagement data—including student surveys, module evaluations, focus groups, league table metrics, student progression and student outcomes.  
  • Provide high-quality insights and recommendations to Faculty leadership to guide decision-making and strategic planning. 
  • Promote and facilitate access to extracurricular and co-curricular activities that build community and enhance learning.
  • Work collaboratively and proactively with academic and professional services colleagues to ensure a cohesive and student-centred approach.

You will be an experienced higher-education professional with a strong understanding of student support, engagement, and enhancement practices.

You will provide administrative support for the undergraduate and postgraduate taught courses in the Faculty, including assessment processes, maintaining student records and responding to enquiries from academic colleagues and students.

Under the direction of the Taught Programmes Manager and Programmes Officers, you will support Programmes Administrators by working within shared, best-practice systems and processes, in compliance with University regulations and procedures, to ensure that services remain efficient, effective, and responsive to changing needs.

You will from time to time be required to undertake other duties of a similar nature as reasonably required by their line manager. This will form part of their substantive role and you will not receive additional payment for these activities.

You may occasionally be required to work on weekends to support relevant events. Time off in lieu can be taken in recognition of the additional hours. 

Annual leave is not normally permitted during the team's peak business periods.

You will support and administer employability activities within the Faculty including 1:1 student support, delivery of student workshops and a range of industry-related events and activities. Sitting in a hub alongside the Faculty placements team, you will work closely together and collaborate regularly with the university’s central Careers Service & Skills Centre.

Working with professional services and academic colleagues in the Faculty and across the university, you will deliver high quality, sector-specific support to our students and our industry partners. This is a varied and exciting role that interfaces with current students, alumni, industry partners and internal colleagues.

To succeed in this role you will have experience working with students or young people, feel confident at presenting and delivering workshops and be enthusiastic about liaising with external industry partners to the University.

You will have exceptional communication skills and be able to build relationships with home and international students, alumni and employers from a range of industry settings. Acting as a key liaison point for stakeholders, you will establish and maintain effective communication channels and ensure that related administrative processes are efficient, effective and adapt to changing circumstances.
