The Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences is looking for a proactive and self-motivated Programmes Administrator to join our Taught Programmes Team in a 0.5FTE (18.25 hours per week) part time, permanent post. 

You will play a key role, working closely with other team members and academic staff to ensure the smooth and efficient administration and operation of our degree courses within the Faculty. 

We require the successful candidate to work on a Wednesday due to the timing of committees and events the post holder will support. There is flexibility over the other working days.

Previous experience

You will have previous experience of working in an administrative support role (preferably with experience of student administration) or equivalent experience working in a busy office in an administrative role.

The Faculty Executive Coordinator provides proactive and high-level executive support to the Dean/Deputy, Associate Deans and the Director of Administration, taking responsibility for designated areas of work and activities within the Faculty including support to research related activities, executive committees and overarching support for the delivery of our strategic goals. 

This is a senior and responsible position, which involves dealing with a wide range of matters, sometimes of a highly confidential nature and interaction with high profile internal and external visitors to the Faculty.  

The post holder must be able to work under their own direction, demonstrate a good use of initiative, have excellent organisational skills and be able to interpret and apply complex information, as well as work with creativity and innovation in a rapidly changing environment.

Additional information

This is a fixed-term, part-time position (21.9 hours, 0.6 FTE) expected to end on 31 March 2026.

In this pivotal role, you’ll work closely with Programmes Managers and fellow Officers to ensure smooth, efficient delivery of both undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

You’ll work in a job-split with another Programmes Officer to lead and manage a small team of dedicated administrative staff, working together to support the Faculty’s education portfolio.

The post will directly input into enhancing the quality of academic programmes and the student experience, ensuring that everything runs seamlessly.

Working closely with another Programmes Manager you will lead the Taught Programmes Team in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. 

This is an exciting opportunity to manage and enhance the staff and student experience of programme administration within the Faculty. This role will cover a breadth of policy and procedures related to academic quality and standards, student experience, and more generally the student lifecycle. The Faculty offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses and research across such diverse subjects as economics, education, politics, languages, sport, psychology and social sciences. 

You will combine leadership skills with energy, enthusiasm and strategic thinking to lead by example and support the team to provide an efficient professional service. You should be able to communicate effectively and develop good working relationships with a range of colleagues of varying seniority and students. With a large team and line management responsibilities you should have excellent organisational skills, be a good team player and be able to successfully manage your workload, as well as stakeholder expectations.
