This is a senior and responsible position, which involves dealing with a wide range of matters, sometimes of a highly confidential nature and interaction with high profile internal and external visitors to the Faculty.  

The post holder must be able to work under their own direction, demonstrate a good use of initiative, have excellent organisational skills and be able to interpret and apply complex information, as well as work with creativity and innovation in a rapidly changing environment.

This is a fixed-term, part-time position (21.9 hours, 0.6 FTE) expected to end on 31 March 2026.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated individual to join our busy Placement Team. Undergraduate and Postgraduate students have the option of taking a one year work placement in industry as part of their degree. 

You will play a vital role in maintaining strong professional relationships with current placement providers in an industry facing role whilst also proactively sourcing and developing opportunities to generate new placements. You will act as a point of contact for students, academic staff and employers, dealing with enquiries and providing guidance. A major part of the role is to provide employability support to students on a one to one basis and good written English skills are essential. 

In addition, you will be required to deliver skills workshops and talks and must be a confident, lively presenter to communicate to the student audience. Your focus in the post will be on supporting students to apply for placements in the automotive and aerospace sectors and you will also support a small study abroad programme.

Further Information 

The ideal start date for the successful applicant would be mid-September 2025. The role is available as a full-time (36.5 hours per week) permanent role. The Placement Team follow a hybrid pattern but are a student facing team with 3 out of 5 day on campus in University term times, 2 out of 5 on campus during University holidays. A couple of days travel a year is needed to visit students on placement.

Through taking a “whole of society” approach to understanding the challenges and opportunities associated with digital technologies we hope to help make the UK a more innovative, safe and resilient digital society, develop the next generation of experts in digital security and behaviour, and advance the UK as a global leader in this domain.

This role will lead on engagement and communication activities under the guidance of the manager and the leadership team. You will co-ordinate the day-to-day running of the Institute and support the leadership team in delivering our strategic aims. The role will be busy, wide-ranging, challenging and exciting.

  • Contribute to BAU activities, ensuring progress of service requests and incidents within the remit of Power Platforms.
  • Work with the Principal Developer Power Platforms to accurately size work and contribute to resource plans and estimates.
  • Help analyse and curate user stories using Azure Dev Ops working collaboratively with portfolio managers and other principal engineers and developers to scope projects and small works.
  • Leverage vendor relationships to drive maximum value, escalating and tracking issues through to resolution, acting as technical liaison alongside product and business owners.

The placements team support nearly 1000 different placements, exchanges and consultancy projects each year, and the administrators are a vital part of the team's activities. 

Among other responsibilities they manage a number of shared mailboxes and ensure all required documentation and assessment is completed by students and employers. 

They also ensure databases and other data records are completed accurately.

Our ideal candidate will:

  • Have excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with placement providers, students, academic staff, professional services and other stakeholders.

We’re seeking Project Managers to work across our capital programme, small works and refurbishment projects.

You’ll contribute to the university’s £1.2billion capital programme running over the next 15 years, with the potential to lead a variety of construction and refurbishment projects across accommodation, high tech laboratories, faculty buildings and restaurants. 

Capital Works Project Manager

This role offers an outstanding opportunity to lead vital upcoming projects with budgets up to £100 million each across our diverse estate, from our original accommodation and facilities through to new campus upgrades.

In this role, you will lead the delivery of multiple, simultaneous complex projects within our diverse estate environment. This involves close liaison with clients to manage external assessments, design management, contract management, contractor management on-site, strategic procurement, and project handovers.

You’ll take ownership from day one, through to the completion and occupation of buildings.

Small Works and Refurbishments Project Manager

Within this role, you’ll work on a varied set of projects from small (e.g. lighting, carpets, painting) to large-scale maintenance, such as lab installations (e.g. lab gases, benching, power/data for specialist equipment).

You’ll manage expectations and liaise with academics and contractors to ensure your projects are delivered safely and on time.

ºÃÉ«tv the roles

Both roles involve developing cohesive project teams, ensuring that all team members are aligned and working towards common goals. By working closely with various clients and stakeholders, you will guarantee seamless project performance and maintain high standards through quality assurance and risk assessments.

To ensure all aspects are on track and within scope, you will closely monitor project performance, successfully implementing solutions by leading external consultants and contractors, coordinating both the legal and practical aspects of NEC and JCT contracts. Your role will be pivotal in ensuring that projects are completed efficiently and effectively, meeting all necessary requirements, budgets and client expectations.

You’ll join a growing team managing capital development and day-to-day maintenance projects. We are a supportive, flexible team that promotes a positive work-life balance. This is a hybrid role with an expectation of 2-3 days on campus per week.

ºÃÉ«tv you

We are looking for candidates with:

  • Proven success in delivering multiple complex projects at the same time.
  • Comprehensive understanding of NEC and JCT contracts.
  • Experience in procuring, contracting, and managing workloads for both internal and external teams.
  • Demonstrable success in leading external consultants and contractors to achieve project goals.
  • Motivation and drive to achieve, with the ability to juggle multiple projects

Chartered Surveyor status is desirable, and we are open to supporting you in achieving this qualification.

You will lead on developing and delivering in-person, online and e-training packages on topics including consent, allyship, being an active bystander, equality and diversity. You will evaluate and monitor the engagement with and impact of the training on our diverse university community. Your role will form a core component of the University's anti-harassment initiative, #NeverOK.

You'll be part of a supportive team but will have opportunities to work with colleagues across the university, liaising with academic departments and working in partnership with the Student Support and Safeguarding Team, Students' Union and wider HR Department.

ºÃÉ«tv you: 

You will be able to demonstrate a track record of developing and delivering impactful training, with successful outcomes for diverse audiences. You will have a good understanding of equality and diversity issues, and inclusive practice and how to apply this in your work. Previous experience of delivering training relating to subjects such as equality, diversity and inclusion will be advantageous but is not essential. 

Previous experience in developing e-learning packages, or using e-learning creation platforms, will also be an advantage but is not essential. However, you will need to be able to quickly and confidently learn new software packages and platforms, and be excited and enthusiastic about developing skills in this area. 

You will understand the importance of evaluation to monitor the effectiveness of your training and be comfortable analysing data and writing reports. You will need to be organised, self-motivated and able to balance the needs of multiple stakeholders in the development and delivery of training.

You will enjoy working collaboratively with a range of stakeholders, as well as be excited by the idea of collaborating with our staff, and contributing to a safe and more inclusive experience for our community.

RIS plays an important role in advancing the University's international reputation for research and knowledge transfer by:

Working as part of a small but collaborative team, you will have the direct responsibility, under the supervision of the Post-Award Manager, for the financial administration of projects within a portfolio of academic departments.

Duties will include: 

  • Post-Award management of research projects, in accordance with terms and conditions of the funder. 
  • Providing advice and guidance to academic researchers.
  • Monitoring income and expenditure on projects in accordance with the grant funding terms and conditions. 
  • Generating reports for awarding institutions on project expenditure. 
  • Submit invoices, financial returns, and statements to research sponsors.

You will possess exceptional verbal and written communication skills, along with strong budgeting and analytical abilities. Proficiency in Office software, particularly Excel, is essential, as is a keen attention to detail. A financial qualification such as AAT, partial qualification as an accountant, or a solid financial background is required. You should also demonstrate self-confidence, the ability to assert yourself effectively, and the capacity to remain calm under pressure.

This is offered on a part-time basis, working 29.2 hours (0.8 FTE), with the option of hybrid working (with a priority for working on campus on Tuesdays). We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated individual to provide administrative support for our lively and busy Departments. The key tasks will be providing administrative support for a number of Departmental activities including executive support for senior members of the academic staff, servicing departmental committees and support for other departmental/Faculty events, including undergraduate admissions.

ºÃÉ«tv you

Educated to a minimum of A level or with an equivalent qualification, you will have experience of working in a busy office environment where excellent communication skills are essential. You will be an experienced user of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) and will be willing to acquire further IT skills. You will also have proven experience of and enjoy working as part of a successful team in a confidential setting.

Experience within the HE sector and knowledge of University Regulations and QA procedures is desirable but not crucial. Skills in the use of University specific software (Moodle, SAMIS, Agresso and Business Objects) will be an added advantage. However, an interest in our work and a willingness to become fully involved in the life of the Faculty is equally important.
