The successful candidate will primarily support students within the Department of Economics, whilst also providing support across other departments within the Faculty as required, including the Department of Health. 

Placement Officers play a vital role in supporting students to secure and succeed in professional placements. 

The role involves developing and maintaining relationships with placement providers and partner organisations, researching and promoting placement opportunities in the UK and internationally, and ensuring students receive high-quality guidance throughout the placement process. 

You will act as a key point of contact for undergraduate students, employers, academic staff and external partners, providing advice and support on placement opportunities, applications and placement-related processes. 

You will work closely with colleagues across the Faculty to deliver an excellent student experience and contribute to positive placement outcomes. 

Our ideal candidate

You will be highly organised, proactive and able to manage a varied workload in a fast-paced environment. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, employers, academic colleagues and external partners. 

You will be confident using your initiative, balancing competing priorities and managing multiple deadlines whilst maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. 

An understanding of employability and student career development within the Higher Education sector would be advantageous, alongside a genuine interest in supporting students to achieve their placement goals. 

Knowledge of placement opportunities and employment trends within the economics, finance or related sectors would be beneficial, although full training will be provided.

Additional information

This role is available on a full-time basis (36.5 hours per week). 

During term-time, full-time members of the team are expected to work on campus in Bath for three days per week and two days per week outside of term-time. Colleagues are encouraged to be in the office on Tuesdays for team meetings and collaborative working.

This is a unique opportunity to combine data analysis, evaluation and stakeholder engagement in a role that directly contributes to reducing educational inequalities and improving opportunities for young people.

You will be responsible for evaluating the reach, effectiveness and impact of WIN's programmes and interventions. Using a range of quantitative and qualitative methods, you will generate evidence that helps us understand what works, for whom, and why.

Working closely with the Head of WIN, consortium partners and external stakeholders, you will embed evaluation across the project lifecycle and ensure findings are translated into practical recommendations that improve future programme design and delivery.

You will take the lead on the collection, management, quality assurance, analysis and reporting of project data, including responsibility for the accurate recording and submission of participant information to the Higher Education Access Tracker (HEAT) database.

The role will also play an important part in helping partners develop a shared regional Theory of Change and contribute to the development and ongoing review of the Equality of Opportunity Risk Register (EORR). This work will strengthen the regional evidence base and support a collective understanding of the barriers affecting underrepresented learners.

Your role will be focussed on supporting our BSc and MArch students to find work placements that are part of their course. For the next few years Architecture students complete 3 to 6 month thin-sandwich placements but we will be transitioning to 12 month thick-sandwich placements longer term. You will work closely with academic colleagues in Architecture, in particular our Professional Studies Advisor and visiting tutor team. 

You will

  • play a vital role in maintaining strong professional relationships with current placement providers in an industry facing role whilst also proactively sourcing new placement opportunities
  • act as a point of contact for students, academic staff and architecture practices, dealing with enquiries and providing guidance
  • liaise with architecture practices and connect them with our students for portfolio reviews, practice interviews and organise networking events

Placement Officers host architecture practices on campus and build strong relationships with them. This is a rewarding role supporting high achieving students at the start of their architecture careers.

A major part of the role is to provide employability support to students on a one-to-one basis and good written English skills are essential. In addition, you will be required to deliver skills workshops and talks and must be a confident, lively presenter to communicate to the student audience. 

With excellent organisational skills, you will demonstrate a good use of initiative and have the ability to multi-task and prioritise a high workload.

Attention to detail and good administrative record keeping are essential.

We work together as a team to achieve overall results and you will need to be a good team player.

An interest in learning about and working with the architecture industry would be beneficial, however, we would not expect prior knowledge and you will be provided with in depth training from both the Head of Placements and also the Professional Studies Advisor.

Further information

This is a part-time role, working 22 hours per week. The Placement team follow a hybrid working pattern but are a student-facing team with 2 out of 3 days on campus in University term times; 1 out of 3 on campus during University holidays.

Working with the FOI Officer, you'll act as the University’s operational point of contact to provide support for the core functions of Freedom of Information including:

  • logging and acknowledging requests for information, 
  • notifying colleagues about requests, collecting and organising information to assist with University responses,
  • working with University colleagues to obtain and advise on information and respond to queries,
  • collecting information for the University’s Publication Schedule

This is a busy and varied role involving daily communication with teams across the University to obtain information required to respond to requests within the statutory timescales. You will also have direct contact with members of the public as well as staff, and must be a confident communicator with a keen focus on delivering excellent customer service.

This role ensures the effective operation and support of the University’s various controls systems.

This includes:

  • Building Management System
  • Lighting control systems 
  • Energy monitoring systems.

You will provide expert knowledge, guidance, and hands-on support in the development and reactive maintenance of the Building Management System (BMS), ensuring all planned works are completed safely, efficiently, and on time.

You will work closely with the other workshop supervisors, engineers and managers to deliver continued support of building services, to ensure minimum down time, increased efficiency and end user satisfaction.

In order to be successful in this role you will need:

  • a recognised City & Guilds or NVQ 3 apprenticeship in Electrical Engineering Maintenance (or an appropriate engineering discipline or related subject)
  • IET 18th Edition
  • demonstrable post training experience in the maintenance, repair, installation and fitting of BMS/automated controls
  • experience of working effectively with skilled operatives and contractors
  • experience of safely working on a variety of installations, appliances and equipment
  • practical knowledge of property related Health and Safety legislation applicable to electrical services (ie COSHH, PUWER Electricity at Work Regulations) 

Ideally you will also have a relevant qualification in BMS/automated controls related subject for Schneider Sigma, Eco Struxture and Tridium Niagra.

Further information

Hours will be worked Monday to Thursday 8.15am to 4.45pm and Friday 8.15am to 3:45pm. However, to suit operational requirements you may be requested to, or have the option to, work flexibly by agreement at any time between 7am and 7pm.

As Head of Strategic Media and Research Communications, you will lead the University's earned media strategy, driving high-impact communications that support the University’s strategic priorities and strengthen our reputation nationally and internationally.
