By the end of this unit, students will be able to:

- Evaluate the epistemological and ontological premises of different understandings of economic practices, including the separation between economy, politics, and society.
- Demonstrate a grounded understanding of analytical debates, empirical trends, key actors and issues concerning the global political economy.
- Identify and critically engage with literatures that explore the interaction between economic, technological, political, social, and cultural drivers of global stability and change.
- Identify and critically engage with literatures that explore social and solidarity economy.
- Demonstrate advanced skills in writing, communicating and presenting academic work.

Content: | This unit provides a comprehensive introduction to the subject of global political economy. It explores theoretical understandings of the market, as well as other economic practices. It examines topics such as the challenges of globalising trade and capital flows, debt, financial crises and financialisation, multinational corporations, and the social and environmental implications of commodity chains and investments.
