By the end of this unit students will be able to:
1. Assess risks and strengths in practice with families, in order to plan and intervene to safeguard children. * (PS 1.1; 1.2; 3.2; 3.4; 3.9; 3.12; 3.13; 5.1) 2. Explain the range of theories and methods that underpin social work interventions with children and families and the methods derived from them. (PS 2.5; 4.3) 3. Recall legislative and policy frameworks relevant for child protection social work and the profession's ethical principles and recognise how these impact on decision making in practice. (PS 3.1; 3.7; 4.3; 4.4) 4. Recognise the importance of 'working together' and be able to practice in a multidisciplinary and inter-professional environment. (PS 3.6; 3.8; 3.9; 3.13) 5. Identify and describe the range of essential communication skills for application in social work prac-tice with children and their families: including verbal, non-verbal and written.
