Learning Outcomes: By the end of this unit students will be able to: 1. Assess risks and strengths in practice with families, in order to plan and intervene to safeguard children.

(PS 2.5; 4.3) 3. Recall legislative and policy frameworks relevant for child protection social work and the profession's ethical principles and recognise how these impact on decision making in practice. (PS 3.1; 3.7; 4.3; 4.4) 4. Recognise the importance of 'working together' and be able to practice in a multidisciplinary and inter-professional environment. (PS 3.6; 3.8; 3.9; 3.13) 5. Identify and describe the range of essential communication skills for application in social work prac-tice with children and their families: including verbal, non-verbal and written. (PS 2.5)

Synopsis: Build on your prior learning from your personal and/or professional experiences and previous studies, including 'Social Work with Children and Families 1'. You'll gain the knowledge, skills and values to work with children and their families in multi-professional settings, across the private, voluntary and statutory settings. This unit prepares you to assess risks and strengths within families, in order to safeguard children and promote their wellbeing.

* Family Group Conferencing
* Planning and review for looked after children

* Applying for Court orders and Court room craft.
