Learning Outcomes: By the end of this unit students will be able to: 1. Assess risks and strengths in practice with adults and their carer, in order to plan and intervene to meet the needs of adults in need of care and support, and to safeguard adults at risk of abuse

Explain the range of theories and methods that underpin social work interventions with adults and their carer and the methods derived from them (PS 3.1; 3.2; 4.2; 4.5) 3. Recall legislative and policy frameworks relevant for working with adults in need and adults at risk of abuse, as well as how the profession's ethical principles and recognise how these impact on decision making in practice (PS 1.6; 1.7; 3.3; 3.7; 4.3) 4. Recognise the importance of working in a personalised way with adults in need and their carers and be able to practice in a multidisciplinary and inter-professional environment (PS 1.1; 1.2; 1.3; 1.4; 1.5; 1.6; 2.5; 2.6; 3.1; 3.6; 3.8) 5.Recognise the important of working in a way which promotes autonomy and choice, whilst understanding ways in which risk must be assessed and managed. Synopsis: Build on the core understanding of the legal and policy context of social work with adults learnt in 'Social Work with Adults 1'. You'll study the complexities of social work with adults, examining areas of specialism. You'll also explore balancing the promotion of choice and autonomy with the role of safeguarding and protection. You'll learn how to: - assess social care needs - identify and manage safeguarding concerns - work collaboratively with service users and their carers
