On successful completion of this unit, the student should be able to:
- Demonstrate an ability to undertake literature searches.
- Assimilate and evaluate scientific information.
- Present a given topic as an oral communication and evaluate written communications aimed at different audiences. |
Synopsis: | Develop further key skills in information retrieval, organisation and communication leading to a seminar presentation and reflective evaluation of written communications aimed at a range of different audiences. |
Content: | Each student will prepare and present a 20-minute oral seminar on a topic selected from a list of subjects that includes a range of disease states and global health conditions. Topics will address the underpinning pathology of the disease area, genetic and environmental impacts, clinical and pharmacological therapies, ethical issues and the global impact of research in pharmacology. Students will also prepare a reflective commentary on a chosen topic to discuss the portrayasl of pharmacology/ science in the news. |
