Learning Outcomes: On completion of the unit, the student will be able to:
  • Demonstrate an ability to analyse seminal findings from early pharmacological literature.
  • Evaluate the relevance of historical observations to current areas of research in pharmacology.
  • Present a concise written account of their selected topic.



Synopsis: Develop your ability to acquire, assimilate and collate information from library sources. Present a coherent account of the historical development of the field in a relevant area of pharmacological interest, in the form of a written dissertation.

Content: The student will undertake this unit using the facilities of the placement provider, and with the advice and support of the placement supervisor. The subject of the dissertation will emphasise the historical significance of specific experiments and published reports within a given area of pharmacological interest. The dissertation may also include technological developments or therapeutic opportunities within the given area.
