By the end of the unit you will be able to:
Critically evaluate theoretical models of pain. Critically evaluate the physiological approach to pain. Critically evaluate the way in which psychological factors can affect the experience and perception of pain. Critically evaluate the role that psychological interventions can have in pain management programmes. |
Synopsis: | "Develop an understanding of the role that psychological factors play in pain and pain-related behaviours.
Develop a critical understanding of the biopsychosocial approach to pain and pain management." |
Content: | The unit will cover the following topics:
The definition of pain.
Provide an overview of biological and psychosocial approaches.
Consider the variability that occurs in the experience of pain, and the factors that impact on how pain is perceived and responded to.
Consider some of the different treatment approaches available to manage pain. |
