|
Learning Outcomes: |
By the end of this unit you will be able to:
Critically evaluate the research and theories of emotion processing and empathy and the specific topics within emotion science that will be covered.
Critically discuss the evidence for specific psychological and neurobiological mechanisms dedicated to processing emotional information related to the various topics and processes within emotion science.
Critically evaluate how these cognitive and neurobiological mechanisms may be different in various disorders, including autism, schizophrenia, and anxiety.
|
Synopsis: | "Gain key background knowledge about the psychology and neurobiology of emotion processing and empathy.
You will develop a critical understanding of the various methods used in emotion science, and how they inform theory about human behaviour. Our approach aims to demonstrate how our knowledge of emotion processing can be applied to understanding various disorders such as autism, psychosis, and anxiety disorders."
|
Content: | This unit will cover the following topics:
Emotional and empathic processes in humans, and how these processes may be different in psychopathologies involving atypical social and emotional functioning.
The understanding of specific human emotional abilities, and the main theories which have resulted from the research.
Different relevant approaches will be covered with a focus on psychology and neurobiology, but also including behavioural and other relevant aspects, in order to develop a fuller perspective of the field.
Emphasis throughout the unit will involve how basic emotional processes interplay to produce our complex human behaviour.
An emphasis will be placed on how the understanding of specific emotional processes may help inform potential treatments in disorders of emotional processing.
