By the end of this unit you will be able to: - Analyse the United States and Europe芒锟斤拷s position on a broad range of key security policy area. - Compare and contrast the different approaches the US and Europe undertake regarding some of the main actors in the international system. - Examine the nature and depth of transatlantic relations. - Select, systematise and use evidence, data and information from a variety of secondary and primary sources; - Apply key theories and concepts to transatlantic relations; - Display critical judgement; - Demonstrate self-organisation and time-management skills. |
Synopsis: | Study key issues and actors that influence international security from the perspective of the United States and Europe.
You芒锟斤拷ll explore topics like climate change and disinformation in a global context, looking keenly at how other nations (such as China and Russia) impact policymaking in the United States and Europe.
Europe will be considered mainly through the prism of the EU, but you芒锟斤拷ll also look specifically at the UK, France and Germany; and regional organisations, including NATO and OSCE. |
Content: | This unit explores the current state of transatlantic security within the broader context of power changes in international relations. It unpacks the views and approaches of the US, and Europe, and it analyses the patterns of cooperation and competition between the two sides of the Atlantic regarding a whole set of issues and actors. Each session will be framed within a specific theory, concept or approach that will consolidate theoretical knowledge previously acquired in other units |
