Synopsis: Advance your knowledge of the complex and dynamic world of global trade. You'll learn about global trade rules and how these are shaped by shifting power dynamics in the worldwide arena. You'll also consider how technological advances are changing global trade, and explore modern developments to make trade more socially and environmentally sustainable.

Content: The unit addresses modern shifts in international trade polices and negotiations. These transcend traditional trade in goods, to cover aspects as diverse as intellectual property rights, linkages to environmental and social standards, national security and regulatory implications of trade policies and negotiations and geoeconomic and geopolitical determinants of shifts in global trade governance. The unit helps us understand how emerging ideas and governance structures interact with state capacity. It also establishes links between these elements and current trade-related developments in the real world.
