Learning Outcomes: Upon unit completion, students will be able to: 芒锟铰emonstrate ability to analyse key issues in Russian politics and society. 芒锟铰an identify the substantive features and dynamics of Russia芒锟斤拷s political and societal order. 芒锟铰re familiar with the main theoretical debates and interpretative controversies. 芒锟铰ave acquired a familiarity with the methodological challenges involved in academic research on Russia and use current media sources. 芒锟铰an communicate effectively on Russian politics and society.


Synopsis: "Explore the nuances of the Russian political system. You will develop your understanding of the political system and society in Russia to build your knowledge of the country in historic and contemporary contexts. You will learn about key topics in politics and society. These include the failure of democratisation and rise of authoritarianism, through to nationalism, civil society, the economy, and gender."

Content: Framing debates: The role of elites in politics. The position of society in politics. The function of nationalism in politics and society. The effects of culture of politics and society.
