Requisites:
Learning Outcomes: 芒锟铰nderstand the complexities of the online political environment, its main components, actors and mechanisms. 芒锟铰evelop the ability to engage with current academic debates around the political use and democratic implications of internet-based technologies. 芒锟铰nderstand and be able to provide examples of ways in which internet-based technologies shape political competition and citizen participation in the political process. 芒锟铰ecome familiar with a range of analytical methods and tools employed by digital scholars and practitioners. 芒锟铰ecome aware of the range of digital tools employed by governments and their potential to transform public policy making and delivery. 芒锟铰evelop the ability to critically evaluate academic research and summarize it for a non-academic audience.


Synopsis: "Gain the knowledge and analytical tools needed to study the digital political landscape. Through real-world case studies, You will examine how the internet and social media are being used to achieve political goals. You will be exposed to research methods and tools used by digital scholars and practitioners. The topics covered include: - online democracy - digital political advertising - online activism - social media and online political networks - governments use of internet-based technologies"

Content: The topics covered include: The online political environment - components, actors and mechanisms Digital democracy and new forms of online political participation Media, social media and online political information exposure Propaganda, disinformation and misinformation Online political networks and polarization Online political advertising and the use of social media in electoral campaigns Digital collective action, protest and activism E-government and digital public policy
