Requisites:
Learning Outcomes: �Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the current state of gender gaps in the corporate world, political opportunity, and within households; �Apply concepts, theories and methods used to study gender gaps to the analysis of ongoing inequalities and proposed interventions; �Describe, compare and critique various methods of closing these gender gaps; �Collaborate with peers to produce a research presentation, communicate key findings, and facilitate class discussion; �Identify, assess, formulate and advocate solutions to gender inequality, and debate these with peers; �Display critical judgement; �Demonstrate self-organisation and time-management skills.


Synopsis: "Examine the causes and consequences of gender inequality in the workforce, politics and the household. You will use research from across political science, international relations, economics and other disciplines to assess gender roles in multiple areas of life and interventions that can promote gender equality. These include senior management roles, childcare, international peace and security."

Content: The unit will begin by defining gender, gender norms and gendered preferences. From there it will address issues including the gender pay gap, gender quotas, women in leadership, the household and the �second shift', women's and feminist movements, inclusive security and peacebuilding, gender gaps in development, feminist international political economy, and the global backlash against gender equality.
