Requisites: Before or while taking this module you must take PH22006 OR take PH10102 OR take PH32018
Learning Outcomes: After taking this unit, the student should be able to: 芒锟铰emonstrate good time management skills in allocating appropriate amounts of time for the planning, research and writing of reports; 芒锟铰arry out literature searching methods for academic journals and computer-based resources in order to research the topics studied; 芒锟铰evelop the ability to extract and assimilate relevant information from a wide range of sources; develop structured report writing and oral presentation skills.

Synopsis: Based on seminars presented by Physics staff, you will learn about some recent developments in physics research. You will enhance your written and oral communication skills, as well as your skills in searching the scientific literature, and in assimilating and synthesising large quantities of information. There is considerable flexibility for you to choose to focus on the aspect of each topic that you find most interesting, whether that relates more to fundamental physics or applications.

Content: This unit will be based on three seminars from Physics academics, who will introduce topics of current research interest. Students then research and write a technical report on one of these topics, and a journalistic-style popular article on one of the other topics. They will also give an oral presentation on the third topic and answer questions on their presentation.
