Synopsis: | Study key methods used to improve health at a population level.
You'll explore how to measure the distribution and determinants of diseases, and how to develop evidence-based approaches to tackle them. You'll learn about these in a global context, examining how the wider factors that influence health differ between countries and regions. |
Content: | This unit will introduce students to approaches to public health that focus on improving the health of populations, rather than focusing on high-risk individuals. In the unit, students will cover each step of the policy and implementation cycle, from defining health problems within populations, through identifying solutions and informing policy, to implementation and evaluation of policy and population level interventions. The unit will take a global focus, considering the health burdens in a variety of countries and regions. |
Aims: | To introduce students to theories of population health, to the epidemiological and statistical concepts and methods used in defining population health burdens, to the concepts and methods of creating population health policy and practice. |
