Learning Outcomes: |
At the end of the unit, students should:
- Be able to understand the different ways of aggregating individual preferences.
- Be able to understand the different voting systems and their advantages and disadvantages.
- Be able to understand the different models of political competition.
- Be able to understand and distinguish the incentives provided by the different institutions and regimes governing the economy, such as lobbying, etc.

Synopsis: | "Apply microeconomic theory and build your skills to analyse and understand key political economy problems.
You will study topics like:
- aggregating preference
- different voting systems
- implementing public policies
- political institutions and electoral competition"

Content: | Individual preferences, aggregated preferences and collective choice.
Voting rules and their incentives.
Direct and Indirect democracy.
Models of political competition.
Institutions and political regimes.
Communication, Science and Democracy, the role of experts.
