Synopsis: | This unit will provide you with practical experience in a professional environment, either in a public or private sector organisation in the UK or abroad, applying knowledge and skills gained within the undergraduate degree programme. It will enable an understanding to be gained of the general structure of an organisation and of expected professional standards. And it will strengthen your decision making skills, flexibility and adaptability, critical appraisal of new information, and team-work.

Content: | There will be a period of pre-placement preparation, during the year preceding the placement year. This will focus on: applying for placements, working on the curriculum vitae and personal statement.
The placement year will consist of a period of paid or unpaid employment, normally within an established private or public sector organisation, performing a role in which some of the knowledge and skills gained from the degree programme can be applied and developed. The placement period shall incorporate critical self-evaluation and employer evaluation in order to enhance practice and identify new learning needs.
