At the end of this module students should be able to
- understand and analyse financial decisions
- determine the value of financial assets
- analyse how financial decisions are affecting other market participants
- apply their knowledge to analyse real-world problems and make suggestions how to address them |
Synopsis: | Gain an understanding of how financial decisions are made by individuals, companies, and banks.
You'll look at the implications of such decisions from the viewpoint of the decision-makers (banks, borrowers, investors, and companies) and the inferences other market participants make based on observing these decisions. This will allow you to explore financial decision-making in a range of contexts. |
Content: | This module introduces students to the application of economic principles to financial decision-making. It will provide an introduction to the decisions by investors in financial assets (portfolio selection, asset pricing, derivatives), the decisions by companies issuing securities (investment decisions, dividend policy, capital structure), and the importance of banks in borrowing and lending as well as advising companies in their financial decision-making.
