  • Critically evaluating children's use of technology in education and society.
  • Critically applying relevant learning (from psychology and sociology) to children and young people's use of technology.
  • Critically evaluating ICT policy and curriculum and other relevant policy initiatives.
  • Critically evaluating the potential of new technology in relation to children with learning and developmental disorders.
  • Designing and/or producing learning or professional resources mediated by digital media on a social media platform.



Synopsis: Develop an understanding of the key theories and concepts for studying and critiquing children's use of technology in contemporary society. You will also critically evaluate and reflect on issues, contexts and the appreciation of the role of technology in relation to learning, communication, literacy and psychosocial development.

Content: The unit will explore theories and theoretical models that underpin learning with digital technologies. It will address the digital divide and examine concepts such as childhood in the digital age, digital literacy, and the role of families and technology. Additionally, it will address the use of safe and inclusive technologies. The unit will further explore how emerging technologies impact children, people, communities, and the planet.
