After taking this unit, students should be able to:
* Critique a range of industrial and other processes in the context of sustainable practice;
* Construct and critically analyse human energy consumption models;
* Critically assess a range of scenarios for human development over the next 100 years;
* Evaluate current literature and opinions for physical sustainability.

| Synopsis: | In this unit you will develop the knowledge base to evaluate the sustainability of a wide range of processes and activities. You will be provided with a sustainability toolbox that you can apply in a range of contexts. You will create plausible sustainable scenarios and compare them critically with other scenarios.

| Content: | Review of basic concepts of energy and applied energy systems;
Industrial practices such as agriculture and food, materials and waste, negative emissions processes and geoengineering;
Human behaviour - consumption and lifestyles;
Human infrastructure - buildings, transport, cities, communities;
Alternative futures.
