Learning Outcomes:
  • Exhibit practical skills and techniques to a good level of ability, in order to allow syntheses of inorganic and/or organic compounds.
  • Perform analysis of these compounds and deduce information about their structures using a range of physical and spectroscopic methods.
  • Utilize computer packages to perform calculations in order to optimise molecular structure and properties.

Synopsis: The unit will (i) consolidate and extend your practical skills and (ii) develop computational skills, both avenues being essential for advanced chemistry laboratory work.

Content: Experiments/exercises in inorganic, organic, physical and computational chemistry. The exact combination of exercises will be determined by a combination of the student's prior knowledge, experience and scheduling commitments.
