Requisites: | Before taking this module you must take CH12002 AND take CH12005 AND take CH22008 AND take CH22009 |
Learning Outcomes: |
Synoptic:
Demonstrate knowledge from the key aspects of core chemistry in earlier years of the programmes to solve problems from across the discipline boundaries of chemistry.
Core self-directed study:
|
Synopsis: | The unit provides you with an opportunity to revise fundamental chemistry from years 1 and 2 (synoptic component). This will also allow you to develop core knowledge of chemistry, which will be expanded upon in the final year of the course and to encourage approaches to independent learning (core self-directed component). |
Content: | The content in this unit will be based on two strands:
1) Key aspects of the core units from years 1 and 2 covering organic, inorganic, physical and analytical chemistry. This is a synoptic component covering level 4 and 5 content from previous years of the course. This will be supported by independent learning and augmented by directed reading and supporting materials to prepare you for an overarching synoptic exam.
2) In addition you must study three topics, which are analogous to topics studied by third year MChem students. Topics will include (a) f-block chemistry, (b) organic stereoselective chemistry, (c) drug discovery. |
