Owning Department/School: | Department of Chemistry |
Credits: | 5 [equivalent to 10 CATS credits] |
Notional Study Hours: | 100 |
Level: | Honours (FHEQ level 6) |
Period: |
|
Assessment Summary: | CWRI 100% |
Assessment Detail: |
|
Supplementary Assessment: |
|
Requisites: | Before taking this module you must take CH12003 AND take CH22010 |
Learning Outcomes: |
Apply theoretical knowledge to practical work;
Design, plan and execute practical work to solve problems across the broad spectrum of chemistry, demonstrating relevant discipline specific skills;
Develop team working skills to enable collaborative problem solving within a stipulated timeline;
Compare the results with literature examples to evaluate your findings;
Assess the risks of the work and plan accordingly. |
Synopsis: | To introduce you to a variety of advanced practical chemistry techniques that involve planning and executing experimental work and reporting the results in a number of formats (e.g. written and presentations). Furthermore, you will be exposed to hands-on use of cutting-edge research equipment. You will interpret data to draw meaningful conclusions regarding chemical problems and propose future avenues of research. |
Content: | You will work in small groups on problems relating to current topics of chemistry. These will be programme specific, and will vary according to pre-requisites studied. A problem will be set and appropriate experimental protocols will need to be researched and designed. |
