On successful completion of this unit, you will be able to:
* Combine and apply the transport properties and interactions of complex fluids, solids and multiphase systems to evaluate complex and integrated mechanisms to complex environmental engineering problems (A1 Level F, A2.2c, A2.2d, A2.2 Level F, A2.4 Level F1, A2.4 Level F2, A2.5 Level F1) [CLO: I1] * Select and apply advanced principles to new and as-yet unsolved complex and uncertain separation and reaction problems in chemical engineering (A2.2b, A2.4a, A5.2 Level F1, A5.2 Level F2) [CLO: P3] * Compare, recommend and justify the choice of technology for a given environmental engineering challenge, including identification of limitations (A2.2 Level F, A2.6 Level F2, A3.2 Level F2) [CLO: I2] * Apply chemical engineering principles and systems thinking, considering conflicting requirements (safety, social, economics, sustainability, ethics) in complex chemical engineering problems (A2.4 Level F1, A2.4 Level F2, A2.5 Level F1, A2.6 Level F1, A2.7 Level F, A5.2 Level F3) [CLO I1] * Relate information from other disciplines to the choice of technology and design (A3.2 Level F3, A5.2 Level F8) [CLO: P1] |
Synopsis: | Using the technical and theoretical knowledge you have acquired through the course so far, you'll further advance your understanding of environmental processes and engineering. |
Content: | * Advanced core knowledge in environmental science and environmental engineering * Relevant advanced chemical engineering concepts, particularly advanced process engineering and process optimisation as applied to environmental engineering scenarios. |
Skills: | * Ability to conceptualise complex environmental processes (T,F,A) * Ability to specify and critically evaluate environmental engineering processes (T,F,A) * Ability to understand and describe global biogeochemical processes and to differentiate human and natural influence (T,F,A) * Ability to develop solutions for avoiding and eliminating environmental problems (T,F,A) * Ability to classify pollutants, know their impact and fate in the environment (T,F,A) |
Aims: | This unit will aim to:
* Convey an overview and a deeper understanding of the scientific foundations of environmental processes and environmental engineering. * Provide comprehensive knowledge about behaviour of contaminants and the processes for their avoidance and removal. |
